Ukraine moves to Siberia, with Consulat General now residing in Novosibirsk

The former Soviet state has other Consultates General in  St. Petersburg, Tyumen and Rostov-on-Don, with a newly opened mission in Nizhny Novgorod.

Its consular district from its new Novosirbirsk offices covers one of the largest areas in the world, according to news agency UKRINFORM.

It will be responsible for assisting Ukrainians in the Republic of Altai, Buryatia, Yakutia, Tyva, Khakassia, Altai Territory, Transbaikalia, Kamchatka, Krasnoyarsk, Primorsky, Khabarovsk territories, as well as Amur, Irkutsk, Kemerovo, Magadan, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Sakhalin and Tomsk region, Jewish Autonomous Region and Chukotka Autonomous Region.

The move, approved by Vladimir Putin,  indicates the importance of Novosibirsk as an administrative and business centre.
