Gloom for a tourist return to Thailand in near future

18 December 2021

Omicron deals blow to recovery in holidays but Thai rules also deter Russians.

‘We are selling to high end clients, a small number of tours’, said one agent in Krasnoyarsk. 'But Omicron is a worry now.'

Russians are not included on the countries Test & Go programme unlike tourists from 63 other countries who can come to Thailand without quarantining.

From  two days ago tourists on this scheme were exempt from a PCR on arrival.

Yet Omicron is also acting as a deterrent now.

Russia remains in Phuket’s top five for tourists - despite the extra difficulties faced by our travellers.

The head of Thailand’s tourism authority, Yuthasak Supasorn, admitted a slump just when the winter seasons started.

A call round of agents in Siberia suggest that the country remains too difficult to get to for many.

‘We are selling to high end clients, a small number of tours’, said one agent in Krasnoyarsk. 'But Omicron is a worry now.'
